EU Van Rompuy: Deeper Budget Monitoring From 2011

Baku - APA-Economics. The European Union wants to intensify the mutual monitoring of developments in member states’ budgets and competitiveness beginning next year, the presidency of the EU Council said Monday, Wall Street Journal reported.

In a statement issued after its third day of meetings, the presidency, headed by Herman van Rompuy, said the EU would in future pay more attention to public debt levels, demanding more ambitious budgets of those countries that already have a high level of outstanding public debt.

The communique gave no suggestion of a binding agreement on any measures, or the time frame for their introduction.
