A compensation mechanism for war crimes committed by Russia against Ukraine is being prepared, and an International Commission for compensation for the damage caused by Russia will be established in the near future, said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky at the opening of a diplomatic conference held in The Hague to establish the International Compensation Commission, APA reports.
Zelensky noted that Ukraine and its allies are currently in the most intensive stage of negotiations: "These negotiations include not only achieving a ceasefire, but also the formation of real and reliable security guarantees that will prevent a new war in the future."
The Ukrainian President said that Russia is deliberately striking energy infrastructure and using cold weather as a tool of pressure. According to him, strengthening Ukraine's air defense and increasing energy stability directly serves to protect people's lives, and international support in this direction is vital.
He stressed that Russia is occupying Ukrainian territory, destroying cities, killing civilians, and at the same time demanding territorial concessions.
At the end of his speech, Zelensky said that Ukraine needs strong and sustained political support, just as it did at the beginning of a full-scale war. He added that the international community must continue to stand by Ukraine, because without responsibility and justice, a lasting and just peace is impossible.
