Mahir Unal, deputy chairman and spokesman of Turkey’s ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP), held a meeting on Friday with a group of foreign media representatives in connection with the first anniversary of the July 15 coup attempt in the country.

Unal said that the Fetullah Terrorist Organization (FETO) had leaked into Turkey’s state structures, an APA correspondent reported from Turkey.

“FETO, over its 40-year activity, has allegedly operated as a movement that defends democracy and supports innovation. However, in 2013, FETO revealed itself as a foreign-backed organization. We witnessed that journalists and other individuals who used to visit Pennsylvanian turned into zombies. Sometimes we are asked why we are defending those who were detained in 2013 on bribery and corruption charges. The essence was revealed after the attempted “judicial coup” on December 17-25, 2013,” he said.

The AKP deputy chairman noted that FETO network operates in 160 countries across the world.

“We warn and urge those 160 countries to be careful. When sleeper cells of FETO activate, those countries can face great threat,” he said.

Unal stressed that Turkey attaches special importance to the protection of freedom of speech in the country.
