The Russian and Turkish Foreign Ministries will hold consultations on the visa issue within several days, Russian Ambassador to Turkey Aleksey Yerkhov told the Izvestiya newspaper in an interview issued on Wednesday, APA reports quoting Sputnik.
Russia introduced the visa regime for Turkish citizens after deterioration of bilateral relations in November 2015 when Ankara downed a Russian military jet over Syria.
"Our foreign ministries are permanently focusing on the issue of visa restrictions. If everything is as planned, in a few days we will hold a new round of the consular consultations between our foreign ministries, during which the visa issue will be certainly discussed," Yerkhov said.
In May, Russian President Vladimir Putin met with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan in Sochi, with the two leaders agreeing to further ease mutual restrictive measures. Russia, however, insisted on keeping some restrictions including postponing the reintroduction of a visa-free regime for Turkish nationals.
