"The new tariffs announced by US President Donald Trump on goods from eight European countries in connection with the Greenland situation will undermine Atlantic relations and threaten to send them into a downward spiral," it was written in the tenth issue of the European Commission and Council, Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa, who are currently visiting Paraguay, APA reports.
"Tariffs will undermine Atlantic relations and threaten to trigger a downward spiral. Europe will remain united, coordinated, and committed to upholding its sovereignty," they assured.
Responding to the US's dissatisfaction with the upcoming European military exercises in Greenland, they noted that "the upcoming Danish exercises with the participation of allies are in line with the objectives of strengthening Arctic security and do not pose a threat to anyone."
"The EU expresses its full solidarity with Denmark and the people of Greenland. Dialogue is key, and we are committed to dialogue between Denmark and the United States," the document states.
