The UN intends to cut approximately 25% of its peacekeeping force due to funding problems, a senior UN official told reporters, APA reports.
According to the official, the number of personnel involved in peacekeeping operations worldwide "will be reduced by 25%." Due to insufficient funding, the global organization indicated that, "by rough estimates," approximately 13,000-14,000 peacekeeping mission participants will be cut.
The official also pointed out that delays in payments and the lack of them by some states "directly undermine" the ability of peacekeeping missions to carry out their activities.
