Ukraine is ready for a bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. However, if Russia does not agree to this, there must be a tough reaction from the United States, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy told journalists, APA reports.
"I immediately responded to the bilateral meeting. We are ready. But what if the Russians are not ready? The Europeans raised this issue. If the Russians are not ready, then we would like to see a tough reaction from the United States," Zelenskyy stressed.
He noted that according to the US position, Vladimir Putin should first agree to a bilateral meeting with him, and then a trilateral meeting with US President Donald Trump.
According to Zelenskyy, it would be fairer to hold the meeting in neutral Europe:
"There cannot be a meeting in Moscow. European leaders also support this, because there is a war going on in Ukraine and on the European continent."
The Ukrainian President added that already at the third stage of the meetings, after Trump's discussion with Putin in the Oval Office with the participation of European leaders, the composition of the coordination group from the American side for the preparation of the meeting with the "Russians" has been determined.
According to him, this group includes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, US Special Envoy Steve Witkoff and US Vice President JD Vance.
