Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy praised U.S. President Donald Trump on Monday for his "expressed determination" in calling for a shortened deadline on making progress for an end to Russia's war with Ukraine, APA reports citing KyivPost.
"Clear stance and expressed determination by @POTUS – right on time, when a lot can change through strength for real peace," Zelenskyy wrote on the X social media platform.
Trump earlier on Monday set a new deadline of 10 or 12 days for Russia to make progress toward ending the war in Ukraine or face consequences, underscoring a growing frustration with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
The fresh deadline suggests the U.S. president is prepared to move forward on previously made sanctions threats, ending a period of apparent hesitation on the matter.
Zelenskyy said Ukraine saw the imposition of tough sanctions on Russia as a "key element" in ending the war.
