Serbian MIA prevents attempt to overthrow authorities by force

Employees of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia, with the support of the Security and Information Agency and on behalf of the High Prosecutor's Office of Belgrade, detained six people suspected of preparing the violent overthrow of the constitutional order, according to Ministry of Internal Affairs of the republic, APA reports citing TASS.

According to the investigation, on June 21, the detainees met in one of the hotels in the city of Kraljevo, where they discussed a plan for a violent change of power in Serbia. According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, they intended to attack representatives of state bodies, attempt to disarm police officers, break into government buildings, other state institutions, as well as the editorial office of Serbian Radio and Television (RTS), Happy TV channel and Informer portal, using firearms.

One of the suspects was found to have a gun with an erased serial number, a magazine with seven cartridges and a box with 25 additional cartridges during a car search. A case on illegal possession and transportation of weapons and explosives was also initiated against him. A crossbow was seized from another detainee.

According to the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the detainees were detained for up to 48 hours, after which they will be taken to the prosecutor's office with the relevant charges. Searches are taking place at several locations throughout Serbia.
