In many countries, demonstrators gather to show solidarity with people back home and to call for an end to the harsh crackdown on dissent, APA reports, citing dagens.com.

In London, these protests have sometimes turned dramatic.

On Friday evening, a protester was arrested after climbing onto the roof of the Iranian embassy in the city. London police said he entered private property without permission. He climbed several balconies to reach the roof. From there, he took down the embassy’s flag.

This is not the first time something like this has happened. On January 10, another man briefly replaced the embassy flag with one used before the 1979 Islamic revolution, according to reports.

Friday’s demonstration was marked by clashes with police. Protesters threw objects, and several officers were injured. The police made a number of arrests, though they did not give exact figures.

Authorities had prepared for trouble. Last week, police said they would deploy additional officers to protect the embassy and prevent disturbances. The building is located near Hyde Park, a busy area in central London.
