“Brussels and the current European Union bureaucracy have become detached from the interests of the peoples of Europe,” said Georgian Parliament Speaker Shalva Papuashvili, APA’s local bureau reports.

He said that as long as this bureaucracy exists, it is difficult to imagine a fundamental improvement in Georgia–EU relations.

Papuashvili also strongly criticized yesterday’s post by the EU Delegation to Georgia marking State Flag Day. He described the move as an act of justifying and supporting violence and advised that the post be deleted.

Note that State Flag Day was celebrated in Georgia yesterday. The congratulatory video shared on the EU Delegation to Georgia’s social media account included footage from protests in Tbilisi that were accompanied by violence.

Recall that tensions have prevailed in Tbilisi–Brussels relations since the Georgian government announced in November 2024 that it would not place negotiations on EU membership on the agenda until 2028.
