“Euronest is a platform for cooperation and dialogue between the European Parliament and the Eastern Partnership countries. The fact that Azerbaijan and Georgia are not participating in the session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly held in the South Caucasus region confirms that the behavior of the European Parliament is wrong,” the Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, told journalists, APA’s local bureau reports.
He stated that Euronest is isolating itself from the Eastern Partnership and wants its regional policy to be based on its own political preferences.
Papuashvili called the invitation of representatives of Georgia’s opposition parties to the Euronest PA meeting a disgrace.
“We do not intend to participate in this farce. We cannot legitimize the hostile rhetoric of some European parliamentarians against the Georgian government,” the speaker added.
Note that the 12th plenary session of the Euronest PA will be held in Yerevan on October 28–30. The delegations of Georgia and Azerbaijan have refused to participate in the meeting.
