Georgia has refused to participate in the 12th plenary session of the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly (PA), which will be held in Yerevan on October 28–30, APA’s local bureau reports.
This was stated in a letter from the head of the Georgian delegation to the PA, Levan Makhashvili.
In his appeal addressed to the PA co-chairs and bureau members, he noted that the recent activities of the organization have caused serious concern.
L. Makhashvili stated that the hostile rhetoric and actions of some members of the European Parliament participating in the Euronest PA toward Georgia contradict the principles of partnership and mutual respect that this platform is supposed to uphold.
The head of the delegation emphasized that members of the European Parliament have made statements and shared posts on their social media accounts that promote unrest, radicalization, and violence in Georgia.
“The fact that most partner countries are not participating in the Euronest PA indicates that there is a serious problem with the current approach of the European Parliament. The PA should consider whether its current course is truly aimed at strengthening regional cooperation or at burning bridges between partners,” the letter says.
L. Makhashvili called on the leadership of the Euronest PA to reaffirm its commitment to the organization’s core principles, to renew itself, and to serve as a reliable platform for the ‘Eastern Partnership’ and its member countries.
