NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte supported US President Donald Trump's views on the Arctic at the World Economic Forum, APA reports.
"I think President Trump is right. We must protect the Arctic. China and Russia are increasing their activities in this region. There are only 8 countries bordering the Arctic, 7 of which are NATO countries. The only country that borders the Arctic that is not a NATO country is Russia. I would even say that there is a 9th country, which is China. China is becoming more and more active in the Arctic. Therefore, I think President Trump is right. We must protect the Arctic from the influence of Russia and China," Mark Rutte emphasized.
