Leaders of several European countries fear that U.S. President Donald Trump may announce in Davos the creation of a new international body — effectively an alternative structure to the United Nations, Bild reported, citing its sources, APA reports.
According to the publication, the initiative in question is the “Board of Peace” proposed by Trump as part of his plan on Gaza. While the body was initially intended to oversee the situation in the Gaza Strip, the leaked draft charter places this issue largely in the background. Instead, it defines a broader mission of “ensuring peace in regions affected by conflict or facing the threat of conflict.”
Sources say that Trump would have the authority to lead the Council single-handedly and even designate his own successor.
One of the factors of increasing concern in Europe is the composition of the invited countries. According to the information, official invitations have been sent to many states, including Germany, France, Ukraine, China, and Russia.
The European Union believes that refusing to join the initiative could provoke Trump’s anger and lead to new sanctions, while participation could weaken Europe’s influence.
