"The European Union stands ready to help strengthen regional ties, help people overcome the years of conflict and move forward on the path to peace," said António Costa, President of the European Council, in a statement following his telephone talks with the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, APA reports.
"I had very positive telephone talks with President Aliyev and Prime Minister Pashinyan this week. The historic initialing of the peace agreement and the establishment of Azerbaijan-Armenia interstate relations are an important step towards achieving lasting peace for both countries and the region," Costa said in a statement.
