"The Georgian police arrested an Iranian citizen who was trying to take a large amount of heroin to Europe by passing through Armenia," Teimuraz Kupatadze, the head of the Central Criminal Police Department of Georgia said at the briefing in this regard, APA's Tbilisi bureau reports.
Within the framework of complex operational investigative measures, a suspicious truck driven by B. T., an Iranian citizen born in 1961, was inspected. During the search, up to 80 kilograms of heroin was found in 315 packages hidden in the back doors of the truck and taken as evidence.
During the investigation, it was determined that a citizen of the Islamic Republic of Iran brought drugs to Georgia through Armenia and tried to take them to Europe from there.
A criminal case has been initiated in connection with the fact, and a prison sentence of up to 20 years is considered for in the case.
