The German government has agreed with state authorities on measures to curb fuel prices, APA reports.

A decision has been made to reduce the energy tax on fuel by 14 eurocents by the end of 2026. "Including value-added tax, the tax reduction will amount to 17 cents per liter of fuel," the cabinet press service reported.

The total amount of the cabinet's benefits is estimated at approximately €2.5 billion. Federal authorities intend to negotiate with oil companies on the possibility of introducing a fuel price cap, similar to those in Belgium and Luxembourg, by January 1 of next year at the latest.
