German Chancellor Friedrich Merz said that patience is needed to achieve peace in Ukraine, and stressed that this will be quite a difficult task, APA reports.
"Nobody should say today that we are only discussing arms deliveries," Merz said at the CDU party congress in Lower Saxony. However, he noted that potential peace in Ukraine requires patience. At the same time, the German chancellor pointed out that "everyone" must understand how "difficult" this task will be over the course of weeks or even months.
"We have taken the first steps," Merz said. "But let me give you an analogy: We are on a 10-kilometer stretch and we have probably covered the first 200 meters," he added.
