The fine for drug use in France will be increased from €200 to €500 as part of a campaign to combat drug crime. French President Emmanuel Macron announced it during a meeting with readers of the regional newspaper La Provence, APA reports.
"We'll increase these fines to €500 because we need to hit people in the wallet. Because using drugs isn't fun. If we don't clearly communicate this to people, we'll be missing the mark. I'm fed up with the fact that some young people are mourned while others think buying drugs is fun," Macron said.
The second measure is to increase fine collection. According to the president, it is at an "unsatisfactory level." Therefore, "republican commissioners" will be assigned to assist justice and financial services, with the aim of improving these figures. Furthermore, Macron announced trips to other countries where, according to him, criminal gang leaders reside. The president intends to discuss with the leadership of these countries the confiscation of drug dealers' assets.
