The European Union should create its own 100,000-strong armed forces to replace the American contingent that the US intends to withdraw from Europe, European Commissioner for Defence and Space Andrius Kubilius announced at a security conference in Sweden, APA reports.
"The 100,000 American troops should be replaced by a combined EU military force of the same size," BNS quoted him as saying.
The European Commissioner also proposed creating a body responsible for resolving security issues. "This could be a European Security Council with the participation of the United Kingdom," Kubilius noted. He proposed that the council's composition be composed of permanent members and rotating members. "The council could consist of 10-12 members," the European Commissioner clarified.
