In January-June 2025, the European Union (EU) imported 4.48 billion euros worth of compressed natural gas from Russia, which is about one billion euros more than in the same period last year, APA reports, citing The Brussels Times with reference to Eurostat data.

It is noted that in total, the EU imported compressed gas worth about 27 billion euros in the first half of 2025. A little more than half of this amount was paid by Europeans to the United States - the US remains the largest supplier of compressed "blue fuel" to the bloc. In 2024, the European Union imported 45% of compressed gas from the United States.

The publication recalls that the European Commission plans to ban gas imports from Russia by the end of 2027. EU member states should develop detailed plans that include a phased cessation of imports of Russian gas, nuclear energy, and oil.
