During the review of the pre-trial detention measure based on the documents in the case of Ekrem İmamoğlu, who was removed from his post as the Mayor of Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality and arrested, it was decided to continue his detention, APA's Türkiye bureau reports.
The pre-trial detention measure was also extended for other defendants in the corruption case.
It should be noted that on July 16 last year, Ekrem İmamoğlu was sentenced to 1 year and 8 months in prison. Although the court acquitted Ekrem İmamoğlu of the charge of “targeting individuals involved in the fight against terrorism,” it sentenced him to 1 year, 5 months, and 15 days in prison for “publicly insulting a state official for performing official duties,” and to 2 months and 15 days in prison on the charge of “threats.”
