98.5% of the work on the Georgian section of the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars railway has been completed, Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Kobakhidze said while presenting his annual report to parliament, APA’s Tbilisi correspondent reports.
He noted that after the completion of railway modernization in Georgia, the country’s annual rail transit capacity will increase from 27 million to 48 million tons.
“We have achieved significant results in the railway sector. The railway modernization project is nearing completion, after which the capacity will rise from 27 to 48 million tons. Also, 98.5% of the planned work under the Baku–Tbilisi–Kars project has been completed. In other words, the work is almost finished,” Kobakhidze said.
