Poland PM meets top EU officials to discuss presidency priorities

Baku-APA. Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on Friday met with European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso here in Warsaw to discuss key issues including a long-term EU budget and the financial crisis, APA reports quoting Xinhua.
Tusk, whose country just took over the rotating EU presidency from Hungary this month, held a one-on-one meeting with Barroso focusing on guidelines of a new EU long-term budget, an Eastern Partnership summit and the climate policy.
Later talks over economic policy, education, employment, social policy, internal and external affairs including humanitarian aid and reactions to crises, also involved more than 20 EU commissioners who came with Barroso to Warsaw and the Polish cabinet ministers.
"Today’s meeting confirmed mutual intentions of very close cooperation between Poland’s presidency of the EU Council and the European Commission so that as many decisions as possible reflect community interests as much as possible," Tusk said during a joint press conference with Barroso.
He noted that the meeting with Barroso and EU commissioners was "another day opening Poland’s presidency."
Barroso said that the Polish presidency was a good omen for Europe and hoped that Polish optimism and enthusiasm would prove contagious.
