Italy marks Republicâ€™s 65th anniversary in military parade

Baku â€“ APA. The parade dedicated to the 150th anniversary of unification of Italy and 65th anniversary of the Republic of Italy will be held in Rome today. APA reports that the event started with the laying of wreath at the monument of â€œUnknown Warriorâ€. Italian President Giorgio Napolitano and Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi participated in the ceremony. The parade held in Romeâ€™s main street Via dei Fori Imperiali has lasted for half an hour. 5700 persons, 196 armors, 9 aircrafts of â€œFrecce Tricoloriâ€ piloting group participated in the parade. Head of states of 40 countries, including Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, watched the military parade. The servicemen from 80 countries, as well as from Azerbaijan paraded at the event.

Modern Italy had consisted of several countries before its unification. The Kingdom of Italy was established in 1861 on the basis of these countries. The monarchy existed in Italy till 1946 and was replaced by republic form of government.
