APA reports quoting “Novosti-Gruziya” agency that President Mikheil Saakashvili made a speech in the parade. He said that Georgia would absolutely be a unique and developed country: “20 years of independence are neither short nor long. But a lot of work must be done. Our main duty is to liberate Georgia’s territories from occupation and to unit it. Our patience and insistence show that Georgia will absolutely be unique country. Despite provocations by our enemy, we will win. For the last 20 years we have passed through the civil war, destructions and horrors. Neighbor Russia which wanted to restore the empire beginning from Georgia and had the great armed forces, repeatedly attempted upon Georgia’s independence. Despite it, Georgia is a weighty country. We will not lose our independence”.

Saakashvili also commented on the mass riot occurred on May 26 in the capital. He said that these events were an attempt to bring about a scenario, written outside Georgia: “These people, these political leaders with their small groups wanted to raise a hand on the Georgian democracy. Instead of wanting freedom of speech, they in fact want violence.”

The military parade started after the president’s speech.
