Baku-APA. Approaches of the European Parliament to Belarus are unacceptable and contrary to the principles of good neighborliness, which destabilizes situation in the country, Belarusian Foreign Ministry official said in a statement on Thursday, APA reports quoting Xinhua.

Commenting European Parliament resolution on the situation in Belarus, Foreign Ministry spokesman Andrei Savinykh said European Parliament forces distorted interpretations which are far from reality of events taking place in Belarus.

The European Parliament is trying to take advantages of the global financial crisis to destabilize the economic situation in Belarus. In fact, they call for measures which are aimed at undermining the stability of the Belarusian society and human welfare, the spokesman said.

In the case of these measures the Belarusian side will be forced to take retaliatory steps, the official said.

According to Savinykh, "retaliatory measures would constitute an adequate response aimed primarily at the personalities and structures that are active generators of anti-Belarusian actions."

He added, however, "We will try to return to constructive engagement. We are convinced that the philosophy of pressure and confrontation, which demonstrates the European Parliament, has no chance to exist in the long term."

Earlier on Thursday the European Parliament urged the European Commission, the EU Council and the countries -- partners of the European Union "to extend the restrictive measures against the Belarusian regime, including the introduction of point economic sanctions against state-owned enterprises."
