Baku-APA. Spanish police have arrested Italian lawyer Giovanni di Stefano, known as “The Devil’s Advocate†for defending such criminals as Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and mass murderer Charles Manson, APA reports quoting voanews.com website.
Spain says police arrested di Stefano Monday night in a villa in Palma, the capital of the Spanish island of Majorca.
He was arrested on a warrant issued by Britain, where he is wanted for alleged fraud, theft, and money-laundering.
Di Stefano was one of the Western advisors to the team of lawyers that defended ousted Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein.
Saddam was hanged in 2006 for crimes, including genocide.
Di Stefano’s clients also include U.S. mass murderer Charles Manson and British train robber Ronnie Biggs.
