Milan holds first public presentation of World Expo 2015

Baku-APA.The city of Milan on Saturday held the first public presentation of Expo 2015 featuring a number of artistic performances, APA reports quoting news.xinhuanet.com website.

The "Expo meets Milan" program included classical and jazz concerts, dance and acrobatic performances, but also sport activities, cooking shows and theatrical spectacles for children, featured in 11 venues of the city.

At an Expo forum open to common citizens, local officials presented the theme of the event, "Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life."

"Milan will become the hub of international exchanges on the themes of nutrition, sustainable development, climate and energies," commissioner for the Expo and mayor of Milan Letizia Moratti told the forum.

The most important heritage left by the Expo, she said, will be the Center for Sustainable Development, "a global network attracting energies, excellencies, research,associations and above all people with the desire to contribute to the building of a better world."

The "Expo meets Milan" program was the first step to fill the gap of knowledge still existing between the world exposition and citizens, said the CEO of Milan Expo Giuseppe Sala.

"The ongoing year is a crucial one, as we will invest, open tenders and sign agreements. We aim at reaching the number of 50 participating countries by the end of 2011," he added.

Switzerland was the first country to confirm its participation at the Expo Milano 2015, with a planned overall budget of about 25 million CHF (26 million U.S. dollars).
