Baku. Ramiz Mikayiloglu – APA. “Azerbaijan has already proved itself as a reliable partner”, Norwegian Deputy Minister of Petroleum and Energy Kare Fostervold said at the opening of the 21st International Oil & Gas Exhibition and Conference held in Baku Expo Center, APA reports.
Fostervold said they welcome Azerbaijan’s activity of transparency.
Following it, EU Commissioner for Energy Günther Oettinger’s letter was read.
The letter says:
“Significant progress is observed in connection with the Southern Gas Corridor. There are crucial steps toward the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe till 2019. The Southern Gas Corridor is of great importance for Europe’s energy security. Europe needs 550 billion cubic meters gas within a year. Azerbaijan can meet minimum 10 percent, maximum 20 percent of Europe’s gas needs via the Southern Gas Corridor. We support the negotiations with Turkmenistan regarding the Trans-Caspian Pipeline. We are optimistic for future cooperation”.
BP Chief Executive Officer Robert Dudley said that due to Heydar Aliyev’s wisdom BP signed the Contract of the Century and Azerbaijan became a leading oil and gas country. “We signed the Contract of the Century 20 years ago. It has been very productive not only for Azerbaijan but also for BP. But for the support of President Ilham Aliyev and SOCAR, these achievements would not have been gained. Leading infrastructure was established and great platforms were installed alongside Caspian Sea”, he said.
Dudley said that 2500 tankers from the Azeri-Chirag-Guneshli field had been sent to the world market up to now. “Late last year BP and SOCAR carried out new activities in connection with approval of the second phase of “Shahdeniz” field. New technology will be used in subsea production. 3500 km pipeline will be built for the Southern Gas Corridor and it will be two times longer than the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline. Consequently a number of jobs will be created”, he said.
He also said that BP will support for the upcoming European Olympic Games in Azerbaijan: “This is the capital we invested for future”.
Following the speeches President Ilham Aliyev toured the exhibition.
