BP also involved in fire-extinguishing in gas field in Azerbaijan

Baku. Agshin Rafigoglu – APA-Economics. Azerbaijan’s State Oil Company is realizing preparation works on the program for elimination of results of the wildfire in Bulla-deniz gas field, SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev told journalists, APA-Economics reports.

Abdullayev noted that the fire is still continuing in the field: ‘Experts of SOCAR and Ministry of Emergency Situations are working on the spot. BP has also offered its help in extinguishing process. And we have accepted their help, because BP has great practice in extinguishing of such fire’.

SOCAR President said the reasons of the accidents are currently being specified: ‘According to initial probability, the accident was caused by high pressure’.

To him, extinguishing is not a big problem and currently the situation is under control: ‘We are working to relinquish the exploration well #90. It is gratifying that the fire did not harm any employee’.

Note that, the drilling of well â„–90 was started on November 6, 2012 at the sea depth of 26.5 m to estimate hydrocarbon potential of the field at VIII production horizon. Gas was not shown until the depth of 5868 m (drilling crew reached that depth at 11.00pm on August 17) that was approximately the middle of VIII horizon. In spite of all preventive measures taken, the blowout and inflammation of gas happened at 11.30pm.
