SOCAR has disclosed details of the measures it is implementing to limit increases in retail prices for gasoline and diesel fuel in Italy, the company told APA-Economics in response to an inquiry.

SOCAR said the company announced the decision on September 27, 2026.

“On September 27, 2026, SOCAR announced its decision to limit increases in the retail prices of gasoline and diesel fuel sold in the Italian market. In order to support its partners and retail operators, with whom the company has built relations over the years based on the principles of trust, transparency, and cooperation, the mechanism is being implemented in stages, initially starting with the network of filling stations operating under the IP (Italiana Petroli) brand,” SOCAR said.

It was noted that price levels are determined by taking into account various needs in order to ensure the continuity of operations of the supply chain and distribution network comprising thousands of operators.

The company emphasized that the decision was adopted in line with the Italian government’s call to support the population and business entities. Thus, amid severe instability affecting global supply chains, the population and businesses in Italy have been facing excessively high fuel prices for more than six months.

“SOCAR is also extending the implementation of this mechanism to filling stations operating under the Esso brand, as well as other operators that purchase fuel from IP and sell it under their own brands,” SOCAR noted.

It was added that, as a continuation of its activities in this direction, SOCAR announced another initiative on October 2, 2026, aimed at supporting two sectors of strategic importance to Italy — agriculture and motorized fishing. From October 5 to 31, with the possibility of extending the period, IP is applying a significant discount on fuel prices for all customers it already serves in these two sectors. Both sectors are key pillars of the national economy and play an important role in ensuring food security, maintaining the stability of supply chains, and producing products for which Italy is renowned worldwide for their high quality.

It should be noted that in the spring of this year, SOCAR completed the procedure for acquiring a 99.82% stake in IP from API Holding.

It should be recalled that Italiana Petroli has been operating in the mobility and downstream (distribution and sales) sector since 1933. With 1,600 employees, a network of 4,500 IP-branded filling stations, approximately 10 million tons of refining capacity at two refineries, and a logistics system spread across the country, the company is the leading private player in the market.
