Günther Oettinger welcomes signature of the trilateral agreement on TAP

Baku. Victoria Dementieva – APA-Economics. EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger welcomed signature of the trilateral agreement on construction of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline project (TAP).

 

According to APA-Economics, Oettinger assessed it as an important step for realization of this project.

 

He noted that TAP project can be one of the first components of South Gas Corridor which is designed to connect EU with the rish gas fields of Caspian region.

 

Note that today, the Greek-Albanian-Italian Trilateral Intergovernmental Agreement on the construction of the natural gas Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) was signed at the Foreign Ministry, Athena, in the presence of Prime Minister Antonis Samaras.

 

According to Greek Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Foreign Minister Dimitris Avramopoulos signed the Agreement on behalf of Greece, with Albanian Vice President and Finance and Energy Minister Edmond Haxhinasto signing for Albania, and Italian Development Minister Corrado Passera signing for Italy.

 

The Trans Adriatic Pipeline will carry natural gas from Azerbaijan’s Shah Deniz II deposit to Europe, contributing to diversification of energy sources for the European market and consolidating energy security in the European space.

 

It is estimated that the construction of the pipeline will generate €1.5 billion in investments and hundreds of new jobs in Greece.
