According to Minister of Industry and Energy Natig Aliyev, firstlyan important document must be signed. One of these is the document related with political will among Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan and EU. Another one is contract between Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan on construction of pipeline.
At the same time, he noted that the main disputable issue of the project is delivery place of the gas. So, although Turkmenistan says it intends to export 30 bcm of gas per year for sale, it supports sale of gas in the Caspian’s Turkmenistan part. In turn, Azerbaijan intends to take over the gas in its own areas. Thus, the issue on financing of pipeline is not completed: “Turkmenistan’s position shows that it must not participate in the construction of pipeline. But, Azerbaijan is ready to invest in the project only jointly”.
S[eaking about worth of the project, Aliyev stated that the project was estimated at $3 bln in 1998, but thereafter it went up: “For example, only bottom part of (under the sea) requires $1-2 bln”.
