Azerbaijan hosts international conference on alternative energy - <font color=red>PHOTO</font>

Baku. Vahab Rzayev â€“ APA-Economics. Baku has today hosted international conference titled â€œAzerbaijan 2020: Renewable energy and sustainable developmentâ€. Minister of industry and energy Natig Aliyev said though Azerbaijan was a rich country with oil and gas, the development of renewable energy sphere was one of the strategic issues.

He noted that a decision was made in connection with the development of renewable energy sphere until 2020 and though the share of this sphere in total energy production had been considered to hit 10%, currently, this figure hit up to 20%. Aliyev said the leading countries of the world were based on this number in their policies.

The minister spoke about different spectrums of renewable energy, as well as security, ecological cleanness and etc.

Delivering speech at the event, chairman of Natural Resources, energy and ecology Committee Valeh Alasgarov stressed that the development of renewable energy sector was necessary and serious works were carried out in this direction. At the same time, Alasgarov said that water and gas were used as main energy source in Azerbaijan, and it is safer and more available in comparison with other sources, such as coal. Besides, Alasgarov noted that nuclear energy was perspective: â€œI hope this sphere will be developed in Azerbaijan, in futureâ€.
