BP frees up $1bn to clean up Gulf oil spill damage

Baku - APA-Economics. Great Britain’s BP company has agreed to provide $1 billion for projects that will restore natural resources in the Gulf of Mexico damaged by last year’s oil spill, the U.S. Justice Department said on Thursday, APA reports quoting Reuters.

Relevant agreement was signed by BP and US government. The money will be for rebuilding coastal marshes, replenishing beaches, conservation of ocean habitat for injured wildlife and restoration of barrier islands.

Each of Alabama, Florida, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas will allocate $100 mln. Other recipients of the $1bn include the Department of the Interior and the National Oceanic and Atmosphere Administration.
