Baku - APA-Economics. A new European taxation system on energy sources will impose higher taxes on CO2 emissions outside the norm, Agenzia Giornalistica Italia reported.

The proposal to revise the current directive was presented to the EU Commission today to come into force in 2013. Member states will then have 10 years to gradually introduce the novelties to their systems.

The revised directive envisages the division of minimum rates into two parts: one, based on CO2 emissions from energy sources, equalling 20 euros for each ton of CO2; another based on energy content or the effective amount of energy produced, measured in gigajoules (GJ), amounting to 9.6 euros for each GJ for motor fuels and 0.15 euros per GJ for fuels used in heating.
