Vesti.az correspondent reports from Astana that the participants of the forum first familiarized with the oil-gas exhibition describing Kazakhstan’s achievements.

Welcoming the participants of the Forum Prime Minister of Kazakhstan Karim Massimov spoke about the steps taken by the Caspian states to maintain the ecological balance of the sea. Prime Minister mentioned the incident in the Gulf of Mexico and said they do not want it to happen in the Caspian basin.

Conference entitled “Eurasia’s energy map: balance of risks and new opportunities” was held within the framework of the forum.

Kazakh Minister of Oil and Gas Sauat Mynbayev said within next 40-50 years Kazakhstan will be capable of exporting 80-100 million tonnes of oil per year. He said they transport 27.5 million tonnes of oil via Tengiz-Novorossiysk pipeline (Caspian Pipeline Consortium) per year.

SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev underlined the importance of joint cooperation between oil companies of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan.

He noted that national leader Heydar Aliyev laid the foundation of the oil strategy in Azerbaijan. As a result of it, more than 30 oil-gas agreements have been signed with 34 companies representing 15 countries.

R. Abdullayev said annual oil output in Azerbaijan would reach 60 million tonnes until 2015.

Abdullayev also spoke about the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan oil pipeline. He said Azerbaijan had an opportunity to pump 80 million tonnes of crude to the world market per year via this pipeline.

The company’s chief said Azerbaijan’s gas export has already been diversified and it was transporting crude to Russia, Iran, Georgia and Turkey.

SOCAR’s chief said that Azerbaijan was exporting 7 million tonnes of oil crude to Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan via railway.

Abdullayev mentioned the negotiations over six projects for transportation of the Caspian natural gas to Europe.

Azerbaijan has 4 billion tonnes of hydrocarbon resources, said the SOCAR’s president and didn’t exclude that this figure would be doubled in the future.

The forum will be continued on Wednesday.

Tomorrow Minister of Emergency Situations Kemaleddin Heydarov will deliver speech on the policy of cooperation between the Caspian littoral states for prevention of oil and technogenic pollution in the sea water area.

The ministries of emergency situations of Azerbaijan and Kazakhstan are expected to sign cooperation agreements within this visit.
