Baku - APA-Economics. The United States has filed two complaints against China at the World Trade Organisation accusing Beijing of violating global trade rules, SteelGuru reported.

The first case concerns duties imposed by China on imports of specialist steel used in the power generation industry.

USA has accused China of imposing anti dumping and countervailing duties on US grain oriented flat rolled electrical steel to harass US exports.

Mr Kirk said “The duties imposed by China have raised the price of hundreds of millions of dollars’ worth of American steel headed into China, with the practical effect of reducing or blocking exports of our steel to that country. China must not abuse WTO procedures to protect its market.”

The request for formal consultations with Beijing on the two disputes came as the Obama administration is under pressure from Congress to take tougher action against China on a number of trade fronts.

Under WTO rules, the United States can ask for a pair of WTO panels to hear its complaints if the two sides cannot resolve the disagreement within 60 days.

Mr Wang Baodon a spokesman for the Chinese Embassy in Washington said in an e mail that “China will continue to faithfully implement its WTO obligations and at the same time firmly defend its legitimate rights.”

She however added that “China’s imposition of anti dumping duties on the relevant American electrical steel was based on a sound investigation.”

Last December, China, the world’s biggest steel market, said it would impose antidumping and subsidy duties of as much as 25% on flat rolled electrical steel products. According to the US China didn’t follow WTO procedures by failing to disclose the facts underlying its legal conclusions and not explaining its calculations.
