Head of Azerbaijani parliamentary delegation to PACE Samad Seyidov said that there were not a lot of debates regarding Azerbaijan in the meeting.
Mr. Seyidov stressed necessity of appointing new co-rapporteur to Azerbaijan.
“Tony Lloyd’s tenure expired. New co-rapporteur to Azerbaijan is expected to be appointed in October-November this year. That person can be from socialist group. Co-rapporteur Herkel and I addressed the meeting on the behalf of Azerbaijan. Mr. Herkel expressed his anxiety and position regarding human rights, journalists. I also said that Azerbaijan is also interested in the solution of these issues, these problems will be solved soon. I also stressed that all the issues in Azerbaijan are solved within law, there are not law disturbances, therefore issues should be approached with patience. Co-rapporteurs will probably visit Azerbaijan by year end or early next year after co-rapporteurs are appointed to Monitoring Committee and it depends on the activity of Venice Commission. Venice Commission should complete its work in Azerbaijan till the year end,” he said.
Mr. Seyidov commenting on appointing rapporteur on political prisoners in Azerbaijan said that there is a working group regarding this issue, rapporteur will be appointed if working group gives no result.
“Working Group deals with this issue and has normal activity. I do not believe that rapporteur will be appointed in this stage,” he said. /APA/
