14-item protocol signed at the meeting of GUAM Council of Foreign Ministers in New York

Azerbaijani and Georgian Foreign Ministers Elmar Mammadyarov and Gela Bejuashvili, permanent representatives of Ukraine and Moldova to UN Yuri Sergeyev and Aleksey Tulbure attended the meeting.
14-item protocol was signed on the results of the meeting.
Joint activity of GUAM members on the item of “Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development†was debated at the meeting and a decision was passed to continue talks in order to win the support of UN members.
The attendees recommended accelerating appointment of Azerbaijani, Moldovan and Georgian ambassadors accredited in Kyiv, as permanent representatives to GUAM, taking into account dynamics of the cooperation in the framework of the organization. It was also recommended to appoint high official of Ukrainian Foreign Ministry as permanent representative to GUAM.
The parties also recommended accelerating internal procedures for ratifying GUAM’s statute, and Agreement on privileges and immunities, and debate the issue on accelerating the ratification of these documents in the session of GUAM Parliamentary Assembly in Baku.
The start of GUAM secretariat was also discussed at the meeting and decision was passed on appointing Moldova’s representative to GUAM secretariat.
The proposal of Moldovan side on organizing youth festivals in GUAM countries met interest in the Council.
The issues on 2008 budget, and arranging GUAM summit on occasion of the 10th anniversary of GUAM in the framework of energy summit, that will be held in Vilnius on October 10-11, were also debated at the meeting.
The parties reached an agreement on holding the presentation ceremony of GUAM secretariat at the meeting of GUAM Council of Foreign Ministers in Kyiv early next year.
The ministers commissioned the Secretary General to prepare package of proposals for GUAM’s promotion and covering the organization’s activity in mass media.
The sides agreed to have the next meeting of the Council during the OSCE Ministerial Conference in Madrid in November. /APA/
