“Rasul Guliyev’s supporters may pass a decision on boycotting 2008 presidential elections in the forum on may 25. There is a thesis in the document concerning the forum’s results that the elections may be boycotted if no conditions are created for fair elections,” parliamentarian Panah Huseyn told the APA.
He said that Open Society Part has made a memorandum on the results of the forum and this document is being coordinated with other opposition parties.
Panah Huseyn protested to publicize boycotting the elections and considers that it damages the opposition’s activity.
“Political processes in Azerbaijan depend on the opposition’s activity. Participating in the elections is one of the ways of fighting for democratic atmosphere. It should not be regarded as imitation of democracy and involvement in the political games of authorities. Those who think so exaggerate it. One can prove whether the elections are democratic or not only by attending the process,” he said.
Member of Open Society Party Managing Board Yagub Abbasov told the APA that Rasul Guliyev will not boycott the elections and no decision on boycotting will be passed in the forum.
“The agenda of the forum has not specified yet. 2008 Presidential elections will also be debated in the forum. We are not for boycotting 2008 presidential elections. We will achieve to change the atmosphere by the elections. International organizations also consider it necessary to participate in the elections. We will join the elections even if the election legislation is not amended,” he said. /APA/
