The trial of Abbas Lisani, activist in struggle for the rights of Iranian Azerbaijanis continued in Tabriz court, the prisoner’s wife Rugeyya Lisani told the APA. Public prosecutor demanded two years for Abbas Lisani. She said Abbas Lisani phoned home today.
“Abbas said there were irregularities in the trial. He also said that he was taken from Erdebil jail to Tabriz court with his hands, feet bound and eyes tied. He even was not allowed to talk to his lawyer,” she said.
Rugeyya Lisani said she will meet with her husband on May 19 and called on international organizations to react to this.
“Though we appealed to Iranian government several times, it was useless. On the contrary, his family and close relatives are pursued and undergo pressure. Abbas’s brother, nephew, and other close relatives and friends were called to the law-enforcement bodies and underwent pressures,” she said.
Abbas Lisani was arrested in November, 2006 and criminal case was launched about him. He is accused of activities against Iranian statehood and stirring up national enmity. /APA/
