Scientific-practical conference “Heydar Aliyev and education in Azerbaijan” held in Education Ministry

The heads of several Universities functioning in the country, teachers attended the conference.
Education Minister Misir Mardanov addressing the conference said the number of the preschool educational institutions reached to 1,956 from 1,555 and the number of children to 153,000 from 108,000 in the period 1969-1982 when Heydar Aliyev led the country.
The minister reported that 28,300-pupil 90 schools were built in Azerbaijan in 1970, the figure doubled in 1975.
546 of every 1,000 people received secondary and higher education in mid 70s of last century and 879 in 1979.
Five new higher schools were opened in the country, over 15,000 Azerbaijanis studied in more than 170 higher schools in the former USSR, the first military school was opened in Azerbaijan in 1970-1982.
Mr.Mardanov added program on reforming of education was approved in 1999 on the initiative of Heydar Aliyev.
Funds for education from the state budget increases every year. Heydar Aliyev Foundation is implementing the construction of schools and more than 200 school building has been constructed.
