UNESCO Assistant Director General: Islam’s becoming a tool for terrorists is threat to our culture

International conference “Role of media in the development of tolerance and mutual understanding” continues in Baku, APA reports.
UNESCO Assistant Director General Moyent Sunyit addressed to the first section on education and universal values. Noting that the main aim is to eliminate the myth of identification of Islam with terrorism, the speaker said Islam’s becoming a tool for terrorists is threat to our culture.
He expressed his anxiety with religious conflicts in different countries.
Naita Masalory, professor of Japan’s Hitotsubashi University expressed her position on women’s headscarf in Islam. “There are women who do not wear headscarves in some Islamic countries,” she said.
The speaker called on to be careful while assessing terrorists for their religion.
The co-chair of the meeting, professor of the US Cornell University stressed the importance of teaching Islam. He said that Islam scientists, imams and mass media can play great role in it. The conference continues in sections. /APA/
