George Mandjgaladze: It is groundless to say the border delimitation talks with Azerbaijan are delayed
“I can not say the exact date of the meeting, but I can only say that the meeting is expected to be held by summer. Because, there is no need to hold the meeting just now. I note that Azerbaijan and Georgia have agreed 300km of the 460km border line, and it means 70 percent of the common borders. Soon, I will discuss the issue on border delimitation with Azerbaijani Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf Khalafov againâ€, he said.
Mr.Mandjgaladze also commented on Georgian Foreign Minister Gela Bejuashvili’s opinion on the postponement of the delimitation talks between the two countries.
“We work through a map during the negotiating process and discuss the uncoordinated areas. Of course, there exist disagreed areas. If we do not come to an agreement on these areas, the negotiations on these problems will be postponed for a time. This is ordinary procedure,†the commission chief said.
Mandjgaladze refused to comment on the proposals on giving the status of free tourism are to the place where David Garechi monastery is situated.
“The mandate of bilateral commission on delimitation and demarcation is limited to discussing technical issues. Experts for specifying historical, cultural and economical establishments are not included to the composition of the commission. Azerbaijan and Georgia can possibly debate on David Garechi monastery, this issue does not concern our mandateâ€, he added.
Deputy Foreign Minister of Georgia said they have already agreed on the more than 100m of the border line with Armenia.
“We are working constructively with Armenia and Russia on delimitation of borders. Armenia shares 220km border line with Georgia, and 45 percent of it has already been coordinated. 300km of 900km border line with Russia has been consented in the level of commissions and 450km in the level of experts. Georgia has concluded an agreement on the delimitation and demarcation of borders only with Turkeyâ€, he said. /APA/
