The delimitation and demarcation of Azerbaijan-Georgia border is being carried out now, and any statement on David Garedji monastery is political speculation. “No one wants to give a part of Georgian land to anyone. Moreover, delimitation and demarcation process is being carried out and current government has agreed 60 percent of disputed territories”. David Bakradze said any irresponsible statement on David Garedji monastery could harm friendly relations between the two countries. “Azerbaijan is our friend and strategic partner. To have relations with Azerbaijan are very valuable for us. It is enough to mention only Azerbaijan contribution in supplying Georgia with gas,” he stressed.
Parliament speaker Nino Burjuanadze addressing the parliament session called his colleagues not to be victim of provocations of forces who want to harm Azerbaijan- Georgia relations. “Such statements could cast a shadow on Georgia-Azerbaijan relations. 35 percent of territories and David Garedji monastery territory are not agreed now. The monastery complex located in David Garedji plain is considered one of the main cultural and religious monuments for Georgia. Opposition and conservative Party know that government has softened its position on David Garedji monastery. Such statements are unacceptable. The power is ready to explain the essence of official talks on delimitation. Azerbaijan is our strategic partner. Strategic partnership means respect for history and future goals. Azerbaijan set out its relation with us on these principles. That is why I recommend you not to make groundless statements”. /APA/
