“Musavat Party having holding rallies in the venue appointed by the authorities, created an opportunity for the government. As a result of it, PACE co-rapporteurs wrote in their reports that if Musavat party agreed to hold protest action in that place, the government is close to compromise,” Gulamhuseyn Alibeyli, chief of pro-opposition Azerbaijan Popular Front Party Supreme Assembly told the APA. Noting that Musavat party’s steps serve the government’s interests, Alibeyli said fundamental position should have been demonstrated in this stage.
“Holding any action far from the center of the city, does not mean ensuring freedom of assembly. We will do our best to hold actions in the center of the city,” he said.
Alibeyli said that they will appeal to court if necessary. He said the party will rally far from the center of the city.
Arif Hajili, chief of Musavat Party Central Executive office told the APA that Gulamhuseyn Alibeyli’s statement is groundless. He noted that the co-rapporteurs did not regard holding rallies far from the center of the city as ensuring freedom of assembly.
“Their accusations are groundless. They should have read the report and then accuse somebody. We said that holding rallies far from the center of the city does not mean ensuring freedom of assembly. We are taking possible steps for the restoration of this right. Unfortunately, only Musavat Party is engaged in it,” he said. /APA/
