He said it is Georgia’s interest and stance however the final decision will be made in the meeting of the Committees on State Borders Delimitation and Demarcation.
“We are trying to meet once a month. The meeting of the two states’ Committee’s on Border Delimitation and Demarcation is to be held in Tbilisi in late April”.
Gela Bejuashvili said according to the Committees’ maps the significant part of the monastery is in Georgia territory but less part in Azerbaijan territory. The Minister said two parties hold the united position on the reaching of agreement on borders.
“We decided to postpone debates on disputed territories. Beside David Garedji there are some disputed territories as Girmizi korpu and others. Azerbaijan claims that those territories belong to this country according to old maps while we have different information.
Answering questions on the possibility of exchange of territories Gela Bejuashvili said such practice is existing and acceptable for Georgia.
“We are ready to debate over that but until neither had we offered it nor our counterparts from Azerbaijan presented concrete offers”.
Yesterday Gela Bejuashvili responding journalists’ question criticized Azerbaijan Deputy Foreign Minister Khalaf khalafov for his calling David Garedji Alban monastery./ APA/
